Responsive website
As smartphone and tablet usage increases, this plays an important role in consumer behavior. Importantly, this change will affect mobile search results. After April, we are expected to see a change in mobile search results. This means that Google will place websites with the better mobile user-experience higher in the (mobile) search results. It is actually quite logical that Google will give mobile-friendly sites priority. There are several reasons for this, namely:
- More searches on mobile devices than desktop.
- Mobile has a crucial role in consumer behavior.
- Google gets blamed for bad mobile sites.
This will only benefit the user experience; no more getting irritated when you land on a website that is not mobile friendly. This is one of the reasons why Google is likely to use the "mobile friendly" label as a ranking factor in the near future.
It is expected that the results you get in Google when you do a search will increasingly depend on the device you do the search with. In other words, when you search Google via a smartphone you will see different results than when you do the exact same search on a desktop.
Check
With the introduction of the label "for mobile," Google already indicated which websites are mobile-friendly according to Google criteria. You can also test whether a website is mobile-friendly according to Google's criteria via Google Developer's mobile-friendly test.
The test then gives you two results:
- Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly.
- Not mobile-friendly.
If your website is considered not mobile-friendly, Google will also give you some areas for improvement.
